Wholesale Data & Analytics is creating a world class “data-driven” organization that leads our competitors and inspires our employees. We are building a revolutionary data analytics ecosystem to generate business insights and provide great customer experience from well-managed and trusted data assets.
Our global team is partnering with IT to deliver an ecosystem of curated, enriched and protected sets of data – created from global, raw, structured and unstructured sources. Our Wholesale Big Data Lake is the largest aggregation of data ever within HSBC. We have over 1000 sources and a rapidly growing book of work. We are utilising the latest technologies to solve business problems and deliver value and truly unique insights.
Wholesale is looking for Data Analysts that will work on the end-to-end flow of a broad range of analytics use cases, to deliver real business value. From engaging with business stakeholders and understanding the problem, assisting data engineers in acquiring and processing the data, building and testing the appropriate model, to overseeing the deployment into production. We need people with experience of business analysis, data modelling, technical data analysis and solution design to help deliver solutions to the business.
What you’ll do
- Define and obtain source data required to successfully deliver insights and use cases.
- Determine the data mapping required to join multiple data sets together across multiple sources.
- Create methods to highlight and report data inconsistencies, allowing users to review and provide feedback on.
- Assist with the planning, tracking and coordination of the data migration team and with the migration run-book and the scope for each cutover.
- Document the data design and solutions to the high end for future reference. Identify data requirements and its specifications that accurately reflect the business needs and support the underlying processes.
- Technically able to validate, analyze, data model and write the clear use stories to Data Engineers. Propose suitable data migration sets to the relevant stakeholders.
- Assist teams with processing the data migration sets as required and with the planning, tracking and coordination of the data migration team and with the migration run-book and the scope for each cutover.
- Collaborate with data architects, data engineering and cross-functional teams to support data-driven decision-making processes.
- Support data-related tasks such as data mapping, data lineage, data governance, data quality, and metadata management. Support the SIT, UAT and Production Support.
What you need to have to succeed in this role
- Minimum 5 years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or related areas. Experience in a Business/Data Analyst role.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex data insights in an understandable and actionable way.
- Strong grasp of fundamental data modelling concepts such as entity-relationship modeling, data flow diagrams, and the ability to create conceptual data models from business requirements. Knowledge of data modeling, database design, and data management principles.
- Good understanding of industry-standard methodologies and tools used for data modeling and data exploration and profiling. Ability to handle and manipulate large time-series data sets. Knowledge of and experience using data models and data dictionaries in a Banking and Financial Markets context.
- Basic knowledge of Python & SQL, and capable of navigating databases especially Hive. Preferable knowledge and experience in Data Quality & Governance.
- Familiarity with the different data management services and technologies available on Google Cloud platform such as BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataproc and Dataflow
- Good knowledge of SDLC and formal Agile processes, a bias towards TDD and a willingness to test products as part of the delivery cycle SIT, UAT and Production Support.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work with complex data sets. Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Understand the Data Definition Tagging processes like Logical to Physical Mapping, Data Processing Flow to measure the consistency etc.
