Global Payments Solutions (GPS) Operations sits within the Global COO structure and is a pivotal part of the Group, providing essential operational and technical support to our global businesses and helping improve customer service and efficiency. GPS Operations combines global expertise and technology to help keep us ahead of the competition and provides the operational stewardship of the payments franchise, processing over 6.5B payments with value of $700T annually 
 
The primary purpose of this role is to provide stewardship and drive operational excellence across GPS Operations across the UK, Europe and Central Europe, including the oversight of Payments Services, Cheque Operations, and BRCS. Accountability for consistent delivery, policy, frameworks, standards-setting, oversight, and assurance across the region, supporting the GPS business. 
 
The role has responsibility of leading Operations to partner with GPS on Cross Border and Currency Clearing – a product vertical focused on building new next-generation, client-centric payments solutions.  
 
Split into 4 core payments functions, this role has accountability over both onshore and supporting offshore teams in the GSCs – enabling single accountability for the Business in the UK / EU / CE 
 
1. Payments Services: Comprising of Payment Processing, Payment Investigations and Regional Utilities 
2. Cheque Operations (ex UK): Comprising of Domestic Cheque Processing, International Cheque Processing and Cheque Investigations 
3. Screening Operations: Comprising of Transaction Screening related to Domestic and Emerging payment products 
4. Client Services, Client Implementation, Client Integration
5. Business Reconciliations and Control Service (BRCS): Responsible for a wide range of reconciliation activity including Nostro, Suspense, Intersystem, related to high volume payment flows such as BACs, FPS, and SEPA. 
 
This role requires an entrepreneurial approach and Global mindset to successfully deliver, working closely with GPS and other key stakeholders to support the Business strategy 

Governance and Committee Memberships (membership of ExCos, Risk Management Meeting)  

1. Member of UK and EU CBCC SVS GPS governance 
2. Member Global CBCC GPS Operations leadership team 
3. Member of UK/EU/CE Payment Services Board 

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities:
Accountable for translating Global Business requirements into executable, best practice end to end services 
Responsible for identifying opportunities to improve Service Quality across the region  
Active engagement with Regional business stakeholders to review performance, identify issues and represent all Operations activity supporting GPS at Business meetings 
Accountable to the Head of SVS Operations and to the Global Head of CBCC within GPS Operations for CBCC related operational service across the UK/EU/CE 
Accountable for the delivery of the Regional targets and meeting FRP 
Accountable to Global Head of CBCC payments for operational deliveries pertaining to the additional responsibilities  
Accountable for implementing the optimal GPS Operations strategy including location strategy, technology levers and engagement with 3rd party vendors to support regional business objectives  
Accountable for adhering to risk appetite and risk control assessment for GPS Operations 
Ensure In-country teams meet operational risk targets, address key risks raised by 2nd/3rd LOD and continually adhere to Global Standards.  
Accountable for ensuring effective controls are in place to manage operational, regulatory and other risks 
Effective capacity planning and appropriate actions to manage headcount for meeting business demand as well as optimal utilization 
Ensure effective business recovery plans and regular testing for appropriateness and adequacy 
Provide input to the Service Catalogue and ensures alignment as new services are offered. 

Leadership & Teamwork  
Provide leadership by example, driving HSBC values through regular engagement
Directly and indirectly managing a regional team and GSC team split across multiple sites 
Indirectly manage non-GPS Operations FTE that support the GPS business 


Information

Functional Knowledge

·         Exposure to cross-border and domestic payment products and systems, including SWIFT.

·         Capable of driving end-to-end customer journey, improvements and automations across value streams, 

·         Experience of working across multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural work environments 

·         Strong analytical background, being able to contextualize data into business activities and conclusions

·         Proven ability in successfully designing and implementing large scale, complex global/regional change initiatives

·         Experience in managing a highly regulated function mitigating risk through appropriate controls

 ·        Sound understanding of HSBC Group strategy and capability to collaborate with the business at a global level
