We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of HEAD OF REPORTING OPERATIONS, HBUK

Business: Global Finance

Principal responsibilities

  • End-to-end process ownership, management of preparation and assurance of all BAU reporting requirements (internal and external) including local consolidated statutory IFRS/local GAAP financial statements (Annual Report & Accounts and Interim Report), local regulatory reporting (Pillar 3), liquidity reporting, plus submissions into the HSBC Group reporting processes.
  • Management of the reporting operations team to produce timely, accurate and complete reports and commentary.
  • Accountable for defining the reporting process and ensuring high quality deliver, as well as escalation, incident management, and stakeholder management around reporting.
  • Ensure that the outputs are of a high quality and prepared in accordance with accepted regulatory and accounting policy.
  • Responsible for the controls over the reporting processes and ensuring that control design is in line with HSBC’s control framework and complies with all requirements (such as SOX).
  • Support the final sign-off of reporting by the Regional Financial Controller, Treasurer and other accountable stakeholders.
  • Key interactions with external regulators if/as delegated by Entity Financial Controller

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Leads team to develop a deep pool of reporting expertise, across all disciplines, with a commercial and change mindset
  • Leadership over regulatory and compliance matters and the management of operational risk within the reporting process
  • Work collaboratively across Global Finance teams
  • Adopt new ways of working such as Agile, particularly in respect of change activities, and encourage the adoption of new technology within the reporting teams

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Pro-active approach to process improvement and query resolution
  • To continually reassess the operational risks inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.
  • To implement the Group Compliance Policy by containing compliance risk in conjunction with the relevant compliance department. The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.

Major Challenges

  • The increasing burden of new accounting, regulatory and disclosure requirements.
  • The need to produce complex financial information in an environment governed by the requirements of the Sarbanes Oxley Act.
  • The complex nature of the Group and the desire to simplify disclosures while continuing to satisfy reporting obligations
  • Management and prioritisation of deliverables within set amount of budget/resources defined by Global Head of Finance Operations/Legal entity CFO
Requirements
  • Strong written and oral communicate skills (English plus local language of country where the role is located).  Ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple manner to a global audience
  • Experience in accounting / financial, regulatory/liquidity reporting.
  • Understanding of control frameworks and how to implement and operate effective controls in practice.
  • Ability to deal with and analyse unstructured problems and queries and to question and challenge existing procedures.
  • Good understanding of financial products and how they impact reporting requirement, and more generically the banking business, balance sheet and P&L.
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with stakeholders of different seniority and geographical location
  • Understanding and interest in how new technology may be leveraged to improve reporting processes and controls.
