Our Corporate Banking (International Mid-Market) team, serves some of the highest growth and internationally minded companies in the Australian marketplace. Corporate Banking supports companies with turnover of c$100m through to c$2bn, with a current client base that includes public, private and financial sponsor owned companies. The team has delivered outstanding results and is focused on providing consistently high levels of support to existing and new to HSBC clients, to continue this strong trajectory.
As an Origination Director, you will be accountable for originating and successfully onboarding new to HSBC Corporate Banking customers. You will be responsible for the prospecting, sales and the successful structuring and execution of credit approvals and legal documentation. Portfolio management may form a smaller part of the role, notably around clients successfully onboarded.
You will be taking on this role at a critical time, as the business embarks on it’s next stage of growth. In supporting this growth strategy, you will be focused on continuing to build HSBC’s market profile, responding to referrals and driving new business into the bank, as well as providing a level of deal structuring expertise to the wider team. You will also have the opportunity to shape and drive the HSBC’s client acquisition strategy in the corporate banking space.
This is a senior role within the wider team, ideal for a candidate demonstrating strong leadership capabilities with interest in potential senior leadership roles in the future.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Growing sustainable revenues through the targeted acquisition of new international Corporate Banking customers
- Developing strong relationships with C-Suite at target clients, as well as managing the engagement with key market advisory contacts and other professionals.
- Conducting in-depth credit analysis and structuring deals, ensuring an optimum balance between customer and HSBC interests while remaining within the bounds of prudent banking.
- Mentoring and guiding junior team members, supporting their technical and professional development. General support to the broader corporate banking team as required on specific deal and structuring situations.
- Supporting the design and implementation of optimal business strategies, including the continued evolution of the origination strategy. These need to be designed to effectively manage customer relationships, anticipate customer needs and provide a superior quality service to continue to position HSBC as market leader in the international space.
- Promoting HSBC in the marketplace more broadly, including the provision of ‘thought leadership’ content.
- Ensuring adherence and operating with the designated risk appetite framework of HSBC, including monitoring and implementing changes to the framework as a result of local, regional or global internal or external changes.
- Ensuring timely and accurate maintenance of deal and customer information on relevant Group systems.
- Ensuring proactive and appropriate relationship building/customer contact plans and pipeline management for both existing and new customers.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Significant experience in Corporate Banking, with a demonstrated track record in new business acquisition.
- Exceptional credit skills, with the ability to structure and execute complex transactions, leading teams through new opportunities, whether cash flow or structured in approach.
- Strong market knowledge of the Australian corporate banking space, with an established network.
- Experience working with clients both operating and growing internationally, developing and maintaining strong relationships.
- A strong commercial orientation and a disciplined approach to maintaining credit quality.
- Demonstrated leadership experience with senior leadership ambition.
- Strong non-financial risk awareness, including an ability to proactively identify, assess and mitigate risks, whilst always adhering to mandatory policies and procedures.
- The ability to build strong and lasting relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders on a global basis.
- Experience mentoring or coaching junior staff.
- To be a demonstrated self-starter, proactively using initiative to drive positive outcomes.
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline.
Preference will be given to candidates who hold Australian or New Zealand PR/Citizenship, or who can show they currently have unrestricted work rights in Australia without limitations.
