In this role, you will:
HSBC is seeking an experienced Senior IT Project Manager to join our dynamic Technology team. This senior leadership role is designed for an accomplished professional with 15 years of extensive project management experience who can drive complex, large-scale IT transformation initiatives across our global operations. In this role, you will lead complex, high-risk IT transformation projects, provide strategic project leadership, and manage the end-to-end project lifecycle from initiation to closure.
Overall Accountabilities
- Strategic Project Leadership: Lead and direct complex, high-risk IT transformation projects across multiple business lines. Shape, lead, and control the delivery of strategic programs that implement business strategies and drive digital transformation initiatives. Provide board-level oversight and executive reporting on project progress, risks, and outcomes to senior stakeholders.
- End-to-End Project Management: Manage the complete project lifecycle from initiation to closure, including business analysis, business case approval, requirements gathering, solution design, testing, and implementation. Deploy HSBC's Business Transformation Framework and Change Framework methodologies within assigned projects. Coordinate activities across multidisciplinary delivery teams, including suppliers, subcontractors, and global business functions.
- Stakeholder Management & Leadership: Build and maintain strong relationships with C-level executives and senior stakeholders across Product, Technology, Operations, and Global Businesses. Lead matrix-oriented teams with a proven ability to influence at all organizational levels. Act as the primary interface between delivery teams, business units, and other projects to ensure seamless integration.
- Financial & Risk Management: Provide comprehensive financial analysis and budget management for large-scale initiatives. Identify, assess, and escalate project risks, issues, and dependencies while taking proactive mitigation actions. Ensure adherence to financial processes, regulatory requirements, and HSBC Group governance frameworks.

To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline.
Experience
- Minimum 15 years of progressive IT project management experience, with demonstrated success in managing large, complex technology projects in banking or financial services.
- Minimum 8 years in senior project management roles with experience managing budgets of $2M+ and leading teams of 15+ professionals.
- Extensive experience delivering regulatory, compliance, or mandatory change initiatives in financial services environments.
- Proven track record in business transformation, organisational change, and benefits realization.
- Proven ability to manage and lead diverse, cross-functional teams across multiple geographic locations.
- Outstanding stakeholder management and executive communication skills with experience presenting to board-level audiences.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to make strategic decisions and challenge business requirements based on domain expertise.
Technical Skill
- Expert-level proficiency in both Agile and Waterfall methodologies with hands-on experience in software development programs.
- Deep understanding of IT infrastructure, software development lifecycle, and micro-service architecture.
- Experience with core banking platforms, mobile systems, and financial technology implementations.
- Knowledge of data management, cloud technologies, and modern development practices.
Language
Professional verbal and written communication skills in English and Chinese.
Cultural Fit
