We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Senior Legal Counsel.
Location: Bangalore
Principal responsibilities
- Act as subject matter expert for all employee relations / employment law related aspects for HR Business Partners, HR Advisors and Business Managers; providing advisory on variety of labour and employment matters including key transformation / change initiatives / restructuring / redundancies / offshoring utilizing appropriate approach / methodology to identify associated risks with actions / decisions
- Effectively engage and manage relationships with legal counsels; work on litigation strategy with respect to employment disputes; ownership & accountability for outcomes and for execution of strategies including coordination with lawyers, drafting, review and approval of submissions before Courts and various authorities, appearance before statutory authorities and courts (with or without external counsels), etc
- Provide legal advice, guidance and support to the Group ER and HR departments within India and the GSCs, as well as end user clients, working as part of the Employment, Benefits and Incentives Legal team to ensure that the Group’s exposure to legal risk is managed.
- Co-ordinate advice for GSCs in other locations globally and liaising with local ER and HR departments.
- Assist the Regional Employment Law team (based in Hong Kong) co-ordinate advice regionally as required.
- Be a trusted adviser to the Bank by ensuring that commercially sensitive, pragmatic and practical legal support and advice is provided in a cost-effective manner.
- Proactively identify and manage current and forward-looking employment legal risk across various HSBC Lines of Business and/or Functions in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Help manage external legal spend and support/drive productive, efficient and focused relationships with external providers.
- Develop and maintain positive and professional working relationships with all team members within Legal and colleagues in the business lines and functions, especially in ER and HR.
- Qualified India lawyer with minimum of 10 years of law firm or in-house post qualification experience, focused on employment law.
- Working knowledge of employment and labour laws in India: multinational experience preferred but not essential.
- Ability to synthesise advice from multiple sources/jurisdictions, in order to identify and advocate for a unified and actionable way forward.
- Experience in advising HR and/or a business on all aspects of the employment relationship.
- Very strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong lateral thinking/problem solving ability with forward-leaning proactive approach
