Role Purpose:
- The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Clearing & Settlement will lead and participate in the daily operations of Custody Settlement* and Third Party Clearing (TPC), ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and operational excellence. This role is ideal for candidates with prior team management experience who are looking to advance to a Vice President role in the future The VP will play a critical role in driving process improvements, leading strategic projects, and maintaining a hands-on approach to operations. Flexibility wo work at the Omiya office on a rotational basis is also required.
*There are two groups under Custody Settlement (Equity & JGB). This job holder will be engaged with both Custody Settlement (Equity & JGB) & TPC under One Clearing & Settlement Unit.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Operational Leadership & Direct Engagement:
- Oversee and actively participate in daily settlement operations, balancing management duties with hand-son involvement. This position requires the ability to lead by example, working alongside team members to ensure accuracy and efficiency in securities settlement.
- By maintaining strong team, assist to attract more market share in Securities Services business in Japan.
- System Expertise & Project Involvement:
- Collaborate effectively with IT teams to address operational system needs and challenges. The ideal candidate will have experience writing system requirements and will participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for system projects.
- Client Inquiry Management & Handling:
- Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Operations, assisting in client meetings and effectively managing inquiries. Demonstrated experience in securities operations, particularly in settlement process, is preferred.
- Project & Process Improvement:
- Lead initiatives focused on system enhancements, automation, and operational efficiency. Candidates with a background in securities settlement operation are particularly encouraged to apply.
- Effective Communication & Team Guidance:
- Work closely with tenured team members, many of whom possess extensive experience and knowledge. The ideal candidate will communicate confidently and assertively, building trust and respect while leading the team without intimidation.
- Compliance & Risk Management:
- Uphold internal control standards, ensuring compliance with operational risk policies and regulatory requirements.
- Document operation activities
- Create/Updating operation manuals
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including client service teams and global operations partners, to facilitate smooth communication and information sharing.
- Business Continuity Plan (BCP) Participation: Participate in a rotational schedule to work from the Omiya office 3-4 times per month as part of the BCP. Currently, this rotation may be as infrequent as once per month, depending on business needs.
Information
- Experience: 5-10 years in securities operations with a focus on custody and clearing, ideally with direct experience in securities settlements. Prior experience in team management is essential.
- Leadership Aspiration: Interest in career advancement to Vice President, demonstrating a proactively approach to professional growth an d development.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in securities settlement systems (JASDEC, BOJ-NET, PSMS & JSDD, JDCC, etc.), along with advanced MS Office skills.
- Certifications: JASA – Certified Securities Sales Representative & Internal Controls Manager (mandatory).
- Language Skills: Business-level English and native-level Japanese with strong interpersonal and communication skills in both languages.
- Soft Skills: Patient and persistent, with a strong capacity to build relationships and navigate challenges without giving up. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and adaptability with a keen ability to lead a seasoned team and navigate complex operational challenges.
- Flexibility for BCP Rotation:
- Willingness and ability to work from the Omiya office on a rotational basis as part of the BCP.
