In the Strategic Cost Management (SCM) function we provide accurate, relevant and effective management information (MI), help stakeholders understand tactical and strategic options, make tangible recommendations, and provide analysis to influence and support business decisions. Business partnering is a crucial element of what we do within SCM. 

What you will do: 

The Business Partner, Cost Management will be responsible for oversight of indirect and intercompany expenses for HBCE Continental Europe.  Together with the Head of Strategic Cost Management, HBCE, this role will ensure transparency of Group, CGCIO, GCOO, and Functions costs to lines of business.
The role holder will be involved in reporting of indirect expenses (eg. from Function to GB) to improve transparency for our customers. They will coordinate the Intercompany (ICO) being a substantial element of the costs base. The role holder will also have significant exposure to senior management within HBCE markets, regional Finance and Global ServCo management; as such, the jobholder will require a level of gravitas and credibility. 
The successful candidate can be located in Paris or in Continental Europe.

In this role you will:

  • Be a Business Partner
    • Being the primary contact for business partners across business lines and functions, including at senior levels, to help them understand cost drivers and improve efficiency
    • Investigate, understand, explain and challenge the allocations of GCIO, GCOO and Functions’ expenses to lines of business across HBCE
    • Owning the process to update metric keys used to allocate indirect expenses across business lines and countries
    • Help drive accurate forecasting and planning of costs for the entity through run rate analysis, challenge and analytical review
  • Control intercompany charges to HBCE:
    • Investigate, understand, explain and challenge inbound charges to the HBCE from Group
    • Understanding and challenging the metrics used for Attributed and Allocated expenses, and driving changes where necessary
    • Work with the Global Business and Functions COO and Finance teams to ensure clear articulation of intercompany services provided, the charge basis and resolving issues and concerns
    • Investigating and understanding intra-Europe allocations, both between countries but also between legal entities within one country
  • Be a subject matter expert in costs:
    • Getting involved in ad-hoc projects and investigations, with the lens of ensuring accurate cost management and reporting
    • Acting as the primary point of contact for MI queries
    • Guiding stakeholders to the correct bookings per cost centre to maintain the integrity of reporting
  • Drive efficiency and transparency:
    • Being the champion for standard dashboards, and drive improvements to these dashboards to meet our stakeholder’s needs
    • Driving standardization of process, where required, across HSBC Continental Europe
Conditions

  • Experience operating in a complex financial services organization (banking preferred)
  • Execution orientated: proactive escalation of issues whilst maintaining solution-focused and flexible approach
  • Experience interacting with senior stakeholders with varying degrees of financial literacy
  • High communication skills to interact with Senior Leaders
  • Agile, change mindset, dynamic and inquisitive / curious approach to work
  • Sound judgment, decision making and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong influencing, interpersonal, negotiation and conflict resolution abilities
