Global Manager Selection - Fund & ETFs (GMS) is the designated HSBC Group Centre of Reference in charge of selection, research, and approval of fund management groups, long only funds, and ETFs. GMS is a global team, based in London, Bangalore and Hong Kong, with research responsibilities across all asset classes encompassing Equity, Fixed Income, and Multi-Asset. 
The team’s role is to ensure that mutual funds and ETFs recommended to clients or used by Group businesses have been subjected to the Group’s approved due diligence and selection process and have been manufactured by an approved fund management group. 
Within GMS the ETF team conducts cross asset class investment due diligence on ETFs and index funds.  As well as monitoring existing approved products, the team is responsible for identifying implementation solutions for new investment themes and to support client demand. The team also provides subject matter expertise to HSBC Group businesses across the globe, enabling local product specialist to position ETFs appropriately with clients.

What you’ll do
    • Conduct quantitative analysis of ETF replication metrics and trading data to identify and on-board appropriate solutions. 
    • Conduct analysis of underlying index structures and portfolio exposures to align ETFs with investment themes.
    • Conduct monthly, quarterly and annual monitoring of Recommended ETFs, working with ETF issuers to understand any exceptions identified. 
    • Proactively engage with various HSBC business lines to understand and manage their requirements for ETFs.
    • Ongoing monitoring of the ETF shelf and suggesting changes based on market environment, business requirements, etc.
    • Preparation and editing of thought leadership research pieces on relevant ETF industry topics, as well as organizing webinars on relevant topics for a global audience.
    • To keep abreast with the market economics and asset class idiosyncrasies to capture and analyze dynamic information that may have a potential impact on the underlying investments in the ETFs under coverage. 

What you need to have to succeed in this role
    • Proven expertise in ETF analysis and selection. Prior experience should ideally include experience in ETF research, structuring, trading or portfolio management. 
    • An analytical mindset and attention to detail.
    • Excellent writing and communication skills. 
    • Proactive, positive attitude and ability to multi-task especially under pressure to meet time sensitive deadlines. 
    • Team player, strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Strong excel skills and working knowledge of Bloomberg. 
    • Good to have:  
      • Practical knowledge / experience of financial markets, macroeconomic environment, risk management, regulations and their application to the financial markets is desirable.
      • Professional qualifications / certifications like a CFA or Master’s degree are a positive.
