This role is responsible for helping the Global Procurement function make better, data-driven decisions and drive mission critical business outcomes through unlocking business value from data. This is typically through complex data analysis, developing insights and high-quality reusable data assets and deploying artificial intelligence capabilities.
We take a customer centric and consultative approach to develop business insights that that help HSBC’s senior leaders answer business critical questions such as:
- How do we drive efficiency in our supply chain?
- How do we more effectively manage risk in our supply chain e.g. concentration risk and horizon scan?
- How do we partner with our suppliers to drive towards net-zero?
The Senior Data Functional Analyst is responsible for bridging the gap between business & technical roles and will work across multiple projects simultaneously. This role will work closely with business stakeholders, IT, Data Architecture & Data Visualization specialists to ensure requirements are captured accurately and with sufficient detail, solutions are viable based on the data available, technically robust and will deliver the right business outcome.
What you’ll do
- Requirements Gathering and Translation: Work with business stakeholders to understand their analytical needs and translate them into technical specifications for data assets and dashboards
- Technical Expertise: Harness a deep understanding of SQL development and data architecture to support building data assets that facilitate effective analysis and reporting
- Data Exploration and Insight Generation: Explore and analyse data to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies, and to translate these findings into actionable insights relevant to the Procurement function
- Stakeholder Management and Communication: Building and maintaining strong relationships with Business stakeholders, effectively communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences, and managing expectations
- Risk and Issue Management: Proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks and issues that could impact project delivery or team performance
- Project Delivery and End-to-End Ownership: managing data analytics projects from initiation to completion, ensuring timely delivery, adherence to requirements, and successful outcomes
- Developing Subject Matter Expertise: Act as a focal point of expertise around key systems, processes, data and reporting solutions in Global Procurement
What you need to have to succeed in this role
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience (SQL development, data analysis, data engineering, data architecture, data management and / or modelling) delivering data / analytics solutions with demonstrable business outcomes
- Ability to compose requirements, data workflows, process workflows and design into clear documentation to enable rapid development
- Ability to analyse existing products, databases and systems to provide solution recommendations
- Demonstrated experience in handling complex datasets and databases
- Capable of developing subject matter expertise in complex areas and demonstrating a resourceful, creative and inquisitive approach to highly complex tasks
- Experience in implementing ETL processes including extracting, merging and incremental data loads
- Proficient in SQL, ETL framework, Alteryx or similar technology, Python, GCP
- Co-ordinate and oversee work to meet agreed deadlines
- Ability to work in fast-paced environment with proven ability to handle multiple outputs at one time
- Exceptional analytical skills with a strong understanding of the power and value of data with an ability to apply technology solutions to meet business needs
- Self-starter who can operate independently and proactively or as part of a team with high energy levels, flexibility, enthusiasm and willingness to learn, resilient under pressure
- Excellent communication skills and comfortable working with senior management; ability to articulate data concepts, problem statements and solutions to non-technical stakeholders
- Demonstrate a passion for research and data, be proactive, take initiative and work independently
- Knowledge of Python and AI / ML methodologies will also serve as an advantage
