HSBC International Wealth and Premier Banking (IWPB): HSBC aims to be the international bank of choice for affluent and private bank customers, supporting their domestic and international banking, and holistic wealth management needs. We provide a leading premium proposition through Premier banking and, together with our Global Private Bank, are present across the world’s most important markets, booking centres, and corridors most valued by our clients.  Our wealth offering is further enhanced through our best-in-class manufacturing capabilities in Asset Management and Insurance.  

The Head of Distribution for Wealth, Premier and Private Banking, US is responsible for maintaining and growing existing International Wealth and Private Banking clients (IWPB) and for driving high quality client growth through the entire coverage of wealth management spectrum – from mass affluent to ultra-high net worth. The role is responsible for the development and execution the Sales teams in the US, in alignment with the US growth strategy. The team is comprised of around 375talented professionals and Wealth assets under management is $18b including annuities and GPB client position is $77b.

Impact on the Business

  • As Head of Distribution for Wealth, Premier and Private Banking, lead the US field sales teams by, providing both strategic and day-to-day direction and guidance across all aspects of retail and wealth banking
  • Responsible for the execution of the IWPB US Sales strategy 
  • Manage a team comprised of three Regions of Wealth and Private Bank Relationship Managers and supporting staff, Ultra High Net Worth Private Bank, Investment Counselors, Wealth Planning and Wealth Services and Supervision
  • Drives collaboration with key stakeholders across IWPB and the wider HSBC organization, being a change agent to enable IWPB to deliver at pace on the regional and global UHNW strategy
  • Deliver and model the value proposition, which is tailored to globally mobile, mass affluent individuals to drive revenue and improve profitability
  • Ensure activity comply with pertinent regulations, including those related to financial reporting to protect company and customer interest
  • Implement customer-driven digital solutions and embed agile ways of working
  • Increase product holdings of our clients
  • Promote and maintain a customer-centric culture that delivers fair outcomes for our customers, ensuring customer needs are well understood and met, complaints are promptly addressed, and expectations exceeded
  • Protect the reputation and integrity of HSBC by ensuring teams are aware and compliant with laws, regulations and internal policies designed to ensure good conduct outcomes for all our stakeholders such as regulators, agencies and board of directors
  • Achieve key financial and non-financial performance indicators including revenues, profits, return on equity, portfolio quality, customer satisfaction, employee productivity and service delivery
  • Be an effective and pro-active risk manager, by promoting a strong risk management culture, maintaining a robust and efficient control environment and managing the range of risks including conduct, credit, operational, financial crime, resilience, security and fraud, operating within defined risk appetite
  • Oversee the continuous development of teams of high-performance professionals in an environment which is values-led, open, diverse and meritocratic at all levels, built on principles of equal opportunity

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Identify cross selling opportunities and increase number of successful outward referrals to other business areas of the Group
  • Drive deeper customer engagement and satisfaction
  • Maintain highest standard of excellence in client service across the team and with individual portfolio through a range of initiatives. Ensure team is collaborating with other functions, products and services for the client
  • Ensure that the Business appropriately resources all areas of the wealth business by recruiting & retaining the highest quality, customer centric sales force and related support personnel
  • To maximise cross line of business collaboration with Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) through Employee Banking Solutions (EBS) in target EA, MA, HNW and UHNW segments

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Provide on-going coaching and performance counselling to client facing team to meet their objectives
  • Promotion of strong performance management within sales team
  • Support Wealth, Private Bank RMs, Wealth Planners and ICs with client strategy and engagements, transactions and business where needed/possible and ensure the team provides an excellent client experience combined with strong operational risk standards
  • Encourage team results and behavior
  • Foster an environment of teamwork and direct strategic goals, ensuring collaboration throughout organization and instill a multi- channel culture across the distribution network
  • Successfully attract and retain a diverse and inclusive client facing team

  • Ensure team and individual adhere to selling process and sales quality requirements
  • Ensure activities comply with pertinent regulations, including those related to financial reporting to protect Company and customer interests
  • Product evaluation and selection appropriate to local market as approved by Executive Leadership (e.g., tax, compliance specifics)
  • Customer Delivery and distribution
  • Continually reassess the operational risk inherent to the business and team so as to minimize exposure to losses and fraud and maintain integrity

  • Understands, follows and demonstrates compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy

For this role, HSBC targets a pay range between $425,000.00 and $500,000.00

The final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and a number of variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.

Requirements

You'll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role:

  • Extensive product knowledge of International Wealth and Premier Banking with proven sales success and experience in P&L management
  • Strong digital acumen and proven track record in deploying digital capabilities
  • Track record of managing and growing International Wealth and Premier Banking client relationship management teams and knowledge of the US and its regulations
  • Strong communication, motivation and influencing skills
  • Experienced people manager, including managing people through people
  • Adaptability, analytical, diagnostic and organizational skills, including the ability to effect positive change
  • Background in customer facing roles and the delivery of improvements in customer experience that improve business performance
  • Strong academic and professional credentials
  • Highly motivated and demonstrates a commitment to developing the HSBC Wealth and Personal Banking franchise in the US
  • FINRA series 7, 9, 10, 24 and 66
