Principal responsibilities
The Head of HSBC Connect – GPS Technology is a senior leadership role within HSBC’s Global Payment Solutions (GPS) Technology function. Based in Guangzhou, China, the role is accountable for the strategic direction, delivery, and operations of HSBC Connect.
This role manages a global team of approximately 600 resources, and reports directly to the Head of Client Connectivity, GPS Technology. It plays a critical part in enabling secure, scalable, and efficient client integration for payments and cash management services worldwide.
• Develop and execute the global strategy for Connect platforms ensuring alignment with GPS business goals.
• Platform Scalability & Security: Oversee the management and modernisation of Connect to ensure high availability, security, and operational resilience.
• Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure that the platforms comply with all relevant regulatory standards and operational risk controls.
• Service Performance Management: Oversee service performance, ensuring SLA adherence, minimising downtime, and improving incident management processes.
• Transformation & Innovation: Lead modernisation efforts for the platforms, introducing new technologies and processes to improve efficiency and scalability.
• Collaboration & Governance: Work closely with business and technology teams globally to ensure consistent governance, prioritisation, and delivery of key initiatives.
• Extensive experience in senior IT leadership roles, preferably in the payments or financial services sector.
• Deep understanding of Connect technologies.
• Proven success in leading large-scale technology transformation programs.
• Strong knowledge of operational risk, regulatory compliance, and data security standards.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with business and technology teams.
• Ability to lead and influence globally dispersed teams in a matrixed environment.
• Strong vendor management and negotiation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to balance technical innovation with operational resilience and risk management.
