Principal Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead propositions for operating companies mandated by MMFS, VC, PE firms in the New Age start-up ecosystem. This will require closely collaboration with product groups (GPS, GTRF, FX) depending on life cycle including propositions like GPS in a box, START-up fund, Venture debt, etc
  • Own, enhance and continually develop the criteria for INM CMB start-up lending program. Managing the program, and attendant risks is a key responsibility across all CMB segments
  • Segment the portfolio into
    • Start-ups by industry (fintech, climate tech, etc)
    • Companies with product market fit 
    • PE, VC owned large companies
  • The role holder is expected to work very closely with Head of NBFI coverage to build dialogue with IB - ECM, DCM, Private Credit, LAF - and GM to create focus and alignment on the portfolio opportunities.
  • Have interaction with Funds along with Head of NBFI to identify strategic financing needs at portfolio level and demonstrate ability to deliver client-centric solutions.
  • The role holder is responsible for overall strategy and portfolio monitoring for portfolio companies/ start-up companies in India.
  • The role is one of a “transactor” wherein the role holder is expected to work alongside the Relationship Management team in early identification of opportunities and bring in the specialist knowledge to structure complex transactions.
  • Lead relationships with portfolio companies and build a meaningful lending and non-lending deal flow. Responsible for deepening our wallet and capturing all ancillary opportunities with portfolio companies.
  • Act as an effective strategic partner through regular meeting to understand emerging themes and needs and providing substantive input to the client planning and subsequent pitching processes.
  • Demonstrate an ability to engage clients on the strategic direction of their businesses, both personally and using senior HSBC stakeholders.
  • Lead events and media engagement for portfolio companies. Increase HSBC’s visibility in the New-economy segment.
  • Assist Head CMB in newer initiatives for CMB including but not limited to (i) Venture Debt (ii) Private Credit (iii) Conceptualising and Formation of NBFC (iv) Co-Lending proposition etc.
  • Protecting the reputation and integrity of HSBC by proactively managing the range of risks (including but not limited to Credit, Operational, Security & Fraud) in the business and maintenance of appropriate risk appetite.

 

The role holder is expected to work extremely closely with Head of NBFI Coverage to allow each other unfettered access to the respective clients - driving a culture of collaboration built on mutual trust. In complex situations like IPO, Blocks, private credit, etc - work in a fully informed and interchangeable manner - subject to Chinese Walls

Requirements

    Essential

    • Minimum of fifteen years proven and progressive corporate banking experience or equivalent
    • Strong knowledge of the India funds market, PE/ VC ecosystem and corporate finance landscape 
    • Background of having done a variety of corporate finance transactions including acquisition finance, ECM etc.
    • Have a demonstrated track record of managing customer relationships and collaborating with product partners
    • Deep expertise and experience in own area with extensive knowledge of own regional marketplace
    • Comprehensive knowledge of sector trends and regulatory environment
    • Proven track record of building new businesses from scratch
    • People management experience, including managing team managers
    • Strong organisational, analytical, negotiation, communication, teamwork and influencing skills
    • Extensive knowledge and proven sales success with the Bank’s products and services, or equivalent
    • Credit training and equivalent experience
    • Strong background in customer facing roles
    • In-depth knowledge of regulations impacting the business and the lending and credit approval process
    • Strong relationships in the financial sponsor and investment banking ecosystems
    • Ability to work collaboratively across internal and external stake holders
    • Need strong knowledge of the India funds market and corporate finance landscape 
    • Have a demonstrated track record of managing customer relations 

    Desired

    • Bachelor’s degree in business, related field, or equivalent experience
    • Understanding of local operating markets and their corresponding span(s) of control within assigned country
    • Experience of driving strategic change in a matrix environment
    • Extensive product knowledge of Corporate Banking/ Funds coverage 

    Additional Information 

    • Mandatory to successfully complete Anti-Money Laundering and Sanctions training and post-course assessment, as required.
