We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join this Global Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team in the role of Payments Risk Steward.  As the Payments Risk Steward, you will be responsible for overseeing the management of risks associated with the organization's payments operations, including both domestic and international transactions across various channels (ACH, wire, card, digital, and mobile payments). 

Global Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is a sub function of Group Risk and Compliance. Its purpose is to make sure HSBC understands and effectively controls its non-financial risk position, through end-to-end oversight of processes, risks, and controls and by robust stewardship of the bank's risk appetite to comply with risk, business and regulatory priorities.  It seeks to strengthen the risk culture across the organisation through the application of effective policies and frameworks that drive consistent risk management practices across our businesses and functions at global, regional and market level.

In this role, you will:

•    Oversee the risk management framework for payments, ensuring alignment with the organization’s risk appetite and regulatory requirements. You will Identify and assess risks across all payment channels (ACH, wire transfers, card, digital payments) and develop mitigation strategies.
•    Perform thematic reviews to enhance risk management policies, procedures, and controls to address new risks, technology developments, and regulatory changes.
•    Ensure payment systems are safeguarded by reviewing and overseeing robust cybersecurity measures and collaborating with IT and security teams.
•    Ensure that all payments-related activities comply with relevant laws and regulations, including AML, PCI-DSS, PSD2, OFAC, and other industry standards and work with compliance and legal teams to stay informed about regulatory changes and ensure that payment operations meet all legal obligations.
•    Oversee and review the Banks response to payment-related incidents, including system outages, transaction errors, or security breaches. You will also conduct post-incident reviews to determine root causes, implement corrective actions, and ensure that preventive measures are in place.

Requirements

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

•    Proven experience with payment systems, payment processing, and regulatory compliance frameworks (e.g., AML, PCI-DSS).
•    In-depth knowledge of payment systems, including ACH, wire, card networks, and digital payments.
•    Expertise in payments risk management, fraud detection, and prevention techniques.
•    Strong understanding of regulatory requirements related to payments, including AML, PCI-DSS, and PSD2.
•    Excellent leadership, team management, and project management skills.
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience in incident management and risk analysis.
•    Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
•    
The base location for this role is Birmingham/Sheffield/Edinburgh and with a hybrid working pattern.
