We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Legal Counsel, Private Banking. 

Principal Responsibilities

In this role you will

  • Assist and support the HSBC Private Banking business in Singapore in its ambitious regional growth strategy by providing expert, commercially sensible and pragmatic legal advice, guidance, and support to ensure that legal, conduct and reputational risks are identified, reported and mitigated
  • Draft, review, and negotiate relevant contracts and related transaction documents (including bespoke credit documentation for complex cross border transactions, service agreements for new strategic launches)
  • Identify new legal, regulatory and market developments that can affect business activities, and advise our business teams on how these developments may affect their business
  • Support local, regional, and global projects and initiatives
  • Advise on the management of complaints, disputes, and internal investigations in respect of the Private Banking business
  • Advise relevant Management on non-standard legal, and conduct and reputational risks and ensure senior Legal Management is briefed on major issues arising in relevant business area and major legislative changes in area of expertise 
  • Lead and manage external counsel engagement on transactions or projects in a cost-effective manner
  • Execute against relevant policies and procedures for the relevant area of coverage to ensure that Legal's role in the second line of defence can be executed
Requirements

To be successful you will need

  • Qualified Lawyer with a minimum of 7 to 10 years’ experience (in private banking or with credit and lending experience)
  • Experienced and confident practitioner with excellent technical legal skills (experience in managing complex credit and lending transactions would be an advantage)
  • Excellent negotiation and drafting skills and demonstrated ability to take initiative and apply good commercial and legal judgment
  • Ability to operate in dynamic and fluid situations
  • Ability to handle a diverse range of issues, deal with new or unexpected situations and work under pressure 
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal) and strong inter-personal skills
  • Lateral thinking/problem solving in an open and connected manner
  • Strong collaborative team player, self-starter who is able to work independently with an entrepreneurial drive, adaptable, open to innovation and new ideas/ ways of working
