We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Strategic Cost & 3rd Party Spend Manager.

Principal Responsibilities

WPB Chief Operating Officer (COO) - Chief of Staff (CoS) provides dedicated, forward thinking, strategic as well as ad-hoc business management support. This includes interacting with senior executive leadership teams across HSBC. 

Supporting the Head of Cost Management Units, this role holder is responsible for providing:

  • Central support into various WPB COO - CoS workstreams on strategic cost management and cost management discipline with particular focus on 3rd party spend including non-permanent workforce
  • Manage a robust governance process for effective cost management, including but not limited to, the approval of contractors, consultants and service providers
  • Challenge senior stakeholders to ensure effective cost management practices are considered
  • Analyse, interpret and report data, to provide insight in to how the organisation is operating / changing
  • Driving efficiency throughout WPB organization supporting achievement of annual plan and positioning HSBC for long-term
  • Preparation for and follow up from a number of executive and management committee/governance forums, including covering costs management for wider WPB etc
  • Providing robust financial planning, management, tracking and reporting, with Global WPB Finance
  • Lead/participate in business planning and strategic activities which may involve financial, technological and resource planning; and coordinate with relevant stakeholders as needed
  • Manage interlocks with key stakeholders with the wider WPB teams, to align business management and governance practices, and to support global WPB COO - CoS initiatives
  • Facilitate and support senior management decision making by collecting and presenting management information, performance information, analytics, forums and stakeholders feedback as needed
  • Project Management of ad-hoc assignments
  • Ensure accurate and timely delivery of management reports on key initiatives and projects that are being undertaken and actively engaging senior stakeholders
  • Provide business management and support overall delivery of WPB COO - CoS activity
  • Supporting the WPB COO - CoS on Financial Management related matters such as FRP and identifying cost opportunities, review / challenge WPB financials, both direct and indirect costs (e.g. FRP, targets, actuals)
  • Undertake cost benefit analysis, where applicable, to justify changes and recommendations
  • Develop and implement effective and efficient ways of working within the function
  • Continuously improve the engagement and communication experience across WPB COO colleagues and wider WPB stakeholders
Requirements
  • Able to work independently and have the gravitas and acumen to work with Senior Management.  The role holder should be confident to challenge stakeholders where appropriate
  • Strong financial analytical background and proven ability in financial/analytical reasoning (e.g. using KPIs), including being able to contextualise financial data into business activities and conclusions
  • Vendor / supplier cost management skills (consultancy costs in particular) preferred
  • Able to manage large volume of weekly requests and multiple stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of HSBC structures, processes and objectives across the Group
  • Strong understanding of WPB business – functionally, financially and operationally preferred
  • High level of personal drive and motivation to ensure delivery of a broad range of outputs simultaneously across HSBC
  • Proven experience of positive, challenging interactions with senior stakeholders across the business
  • Proven ability to articulate complex issues concisely and in simple language to support problem analysis
  • Outstanding relationship management, collaboration and influencing skills
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels across the Group
  • Proven experience of motivating and influencing others to deliver exceptional performance and long term results
  • Practical experience of major business transformation activities
  • Proven abilities in working across cultures
  • Proven ability to provide new and enriched insights which helps with enriched business decision making
  • Experience in managing a wide range of projects
