Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, market and reputation risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.
We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Structured Credit Risk Manager.
Principal Responsibilities
In this role you will
- Review, recommend, and approve structured credit proposals for Private Banking Hong Kong in accordance with authorized credit limits
- Be the primary point of contact for the areas under responsibility for Private Banking related matters, which include approvals, pipeline discussions, portfolio reviews, management of problem exposures, and credit policies/ guidelines/ system
- Maintain the credit quality of the portfolio and promote prudent lending principles to ensure strong asset quality and minimize credit losses
- Proactively identify and highlight emerging risk issues and sub-standard credit exposures and ensure appropriate action is taken to protect the Bank’s interests
- Involve in credit related projects or represent the team in Private Banking/ credit forums as delegated by Head of PB Credit Risk from time to time
- Engage stakeholders and internal customers regularly by understanding and sharing vision, best practice, challenges, and potential solutions; and by working collaboratively on transaction pipelines, credit guidelines, portfolio or product reviews, and other credit risk related initiatives
- Maintain regular communication with Business, Product, and Group Risk, provide feedback or advice to maintain effective relationships in the areas of responsibility; reinforce HSBC’s strong brand value with third parties
To be successful, you are required to have
- Degree holder with solid and diversified banking experience and a thorough understanding of the banking industry, lending practices, guidelines and appetite, as well as robust knowledge of corporate banking and treasury products
- Conversant with Lombard lending and structured lending against asset classes such as concentrated, illiquid or unlisted share, commercial real estate, jet, yacht, art, hedge fund and private equity; and aware of the prevailing market trends in terms of credit in Asia and/or in Emerging Markets
- Strong analytical and technical skills, as well as the ability to understand and consolidate diverse and complex business information to identify and mitigate risks
- Excellent communication and leadership skills to able to lead discussion and credit approval forums which involve various senior stakeholders from multiple functions
- Able to maintain strong relationships with Risk Heads, Customer Group Heads, and relationship teams. Demonstrated team player attitude with ability and willingness to reach out and help beyond the strict boundaries of the core role. Ability to deal with, and present conflicting views to senior management in a clear and succinct manner
- Balanced, constructive and commercial approach to decision-making reflective of the ‘protect and enable’ mandate of the Wholesale Credit Risk sub function
