We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Translator - GB TRANSLATION TEAM.

Principal responsibilities

The incumbent will be required to work extensively with the analysts and associates in Guangzhou and Global CIB on translation presentation materials and pitchbooks from English to Chinese, and  vice versa.

Impact on the Business

  • Contribute to the business by providing timely and quality translation support.
  • Achieve 100% on-time delivery. The translator must properly communicate and agree on an extended deadline if it is foreseen that the pre-agreed deadline may be missed.
  • Ensure the translation faithfully reflects the original meaning without causing misunderstanding, achieves idiomaticity, and is fit for the purpose it is to be used for.

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Respond in a timely manner to manager instructions and translation requests, especially in urgent situations.
  • Maintain good working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Strive to meet requester expectations and achieve requester satisfaction.

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Rotate to assist with translation requests coordination, task assignment, mailbox monitoring and MI data maintenance when on duty over weekends / during manager’s absence.
  • Offer to share task being handled by a colleague to help meet a challenging deadline / expedite the processing time when needed, especially when there is no task in hand.

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Achieve a productivity (hourly output) level that is close to the team average and aim for a reasonable, steady yearly increase.
  • Maintain a 70% utilization or above.
  • Demonstrate at least “strong” rated behaviors as outlined in HSBC Values-aligned Behavior Guide and adhere to compliance requirements at all times.
Requirements
  • Working knowledge in finance and translation.
  • Excellent logical thinking and understanding skills.
  • Highly proficient at Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Good at multitasking.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Eye for detail.
  • 0 - 3 years of work experience in translation.

Candidate with less relevant experience or skills may be offered a lower Global Career Band than stated above.

Due to the urgent hiring need, candidates with immediate right to work locally and no relocation need will be prioritised.
